Reporting to our CIO, the Data Engineering Manager will lead delivery teams responsible for data movement, data lifecycle activities, and reporting. We operate very quickly and time to market is imperative for projects that affect income.  As such, you will leverage both skill and experience leading a team of engineers to ensure successful and timely delivery of business solutions. You will be an integral part of the IT leadership team and assists in the ongoing development and implementation of our organizational IT strategy.  As a hands-on development manager, you would be responsible for ensuring data integrity, security, and optimization for analytical and reporting solutions  At Cottonwood, we are seeking candidates that believe customer service is paramount and who want to be a part of a dynamic team delivering world class results.  If that describes you, we would love to have you on the team. This position is based at our Administrative Office (HQ) in Irving (Las Colinas), Texas.


  • Lead and develop other up and coming engineers
  • Actively engage in technology strategy and data architecture across the organization
  • Master new technologies rapidly as needed to progress varied initiatives
  • Break down complex data issues and resolve them
  • Build robust systems with an eye on automation and the long-term maintenance and support of the application
  • Maintain relationships with key business and IT stakeholders and manage expectations
  • Be a conduit to other teams and lines of business with which the team is interacting
  • Create, maintain, and troubleshoot ETL and other system interfaces
  • Manage and maintain the integrity and reliability of our data and databases
  • Develop scripts to optimally perform stored procedures, functions, views, and notifications
  • Develop and maintain enterprise data warehouse and data mart metadata structures to support corporate reporting initiatives
  • Develop ETL processes to move data from OLTP systems to reporting and analytical data structures
  • Manage, create, and maintain standard operational performance and other reports and dashboards
  • Create Proof of Concepts from scratch illustrating how data integration techniques can meet specific business requirements reducing cost and time to market


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent Military/other experience
  • At least 2 years of experience leading a development team and managing other software and/or data engineers
  • At least 2 years of experience building data pipelines, CICD pipelines, and fit for purpose data stores
  • At least 1 year of experience in Cloud technologies: Azure, AWS, OpenStack, Docker, Ansible, Chef or Terraform
  • Experience creating and maintaining an enterprise data warehouse
  • Windows, Power BI, SQL, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, T-SQL script writing and report writing experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptional client relations skills
  • Ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic, rapidly changing business and technical environment
  • Strong consulting and collaboration skills


  • Master’s Degree
  • 6+ years of experience with Data Architecture and Design
  • 4+ years of Data Engineering experience with Big Data Technologies: Apache Spark, Hadoop, or Kafka
  • 4+ years of experience working with data consumption patterns in SQL or Python applications
  • 3+ years of experience working with automated build and continuous integration systems
  • Agile/SAFe development methodology experience
  • Ability to collect and analyze data and report results
  • Understanding of basic accounting report requirements
  • Experience with BIML and MIST
  • Experience in a Financial Services organization
