Job Description

The Database Administrator I (DBA I) reports to our Technology Manager and works closely with system administrators and developers.  This individual key team member is responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, backup/recovery and performance of critical SQL Server RDBMS systems.  The DBA I will ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications.



The DBA I will be responsible for the development and sustainability of the SQL Server Database and Warehouse, ensuring its operational readiness (health, security, and performance), executing data loads and performing data modeling in support of multiple development teams (application development and business intelligence teams).  The DBA I must be capable of working independently and collaboratively. This position is based at our Administrative Office (HQ) in Irving (Las Colinas), Texas.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Install and administer SQL Server 2008, 2012, 2014, 2016 databases on Windows 2008, 2012 servers in a multiple database server, high availability environment

  • Evaluate service packs and provide minimal risk based strategy for implementation

  • Perform weekly on-call rotation for production operations and other environments (as needed)

  • Monitor databases for resource utilization

  • Initiate corrective action to ensure all database servers meet processing requirements for performance and reliability

  • Exercise performance tuning and query optimization

  • Create and maintain SQL server replication

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive library of all supporting documentation

  • Participate in database design process

  • Manage databases, schemas, tables, views, indexes, stored procedures, triggers and declarative integrity constraints

  • Maintain database security

  • Perform backup and recovery (policy, process and operation)

  • Create, test and document custom stored procedures 

  • Exercise space management

  • Proactively monitor production environments and identify performance bottlenecks

Job Requirements

  • 2+ years as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA (2+ years SQL Server 2012 or higher)

  • 2+ years as a DBA supporting a production environment

  • 2+ years with advanced database clustering, always on, mirroring, and replication technologies

  • 2+ years programming in SQL

  • Strong experience with Microsoft operating systems (Windows 2008 Windows 2012 R2)

  • Expertise with table/index design

  • Experience with Powershell scripting

  • Experience with monitoring solutions

  • Automation skills with restores and data refreshes

  • Resourceful person with good problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Local (Dallas/Fort Worth area) candidates only – no relocation

  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship and not require sponsorship in the future


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field

  • SQL Server certification

  • Experience with other database vendors (Mongo, MySQL, etc)

  • Experience with C# and .NET

  • Knowledge related to computer hardware (servers, networks, SAN, RAID devices or I/O subsystems)

  • Experience with writing, configuring and troubleshooting SSIS packages

  • Experience with VMWare

  • Familiarity with Agile development methodology such as KANBAN

  • Understanding of project management and ability to provide and manage scope definition, project plans, risk assessment, and reporting is a plus
